White Oak, also known at Quercus alba, is one of the leading tradewoods in North America. The White Oak tree typically grows to a height of between 65-85 feet. The trunk has a diameter of 2-4 feet its bark is ashen gray in color. White Oak leaves are alternate, 5-9 inches long, 3-4 inches wide and oblong in shape. Since the tree is deciduous the leaves change color throughout the year. The tree’s sapwood is pale brown to white while the heartwood is darker but only light brown. White Oak is known for its recognizable pattern of rays from an attractive tan to a golden brown. Its wood is mostly straight-grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than Red Oak. White Oak produces hard and heavy wood with medium bending and crushing strength, low stiffness and very good steam bending. Its attributes make it great against wear. White Oak hardwood floors will darken with sunlight exposure to deeper golden brown, effectively enriching the coloration.
White oak hardwood floors are particularly durable against splitting, while accepting and holding nails easily. Sanding can be problematic, but machining is a more reasonable endeavor. Special care must be taken when exposing white oak to bleach or water-based finishes, because certain types can cause the floor to discolor to green or brown. Woodworkers should also be aware of the fact that some ferrous metal hardware reacts with oak, causing corrosion and staining. To prevent this, brass or stainless steel fittings should be used instead.

There are a lot of things to consider whenever you’re looking to purchase flooring for your home. You have to make sure it matches your decor and feel of your house. There are similar challenges that go along with searching for commercial flooring as well, but there are several other factors that you have to keep in mind. Depending on the commercial setting, flooring may need several different types of attributes applied to them. For instance, flooring in a computer lab may be treated in a way to dissipate the buildup of static electricity. There are a lot of different factors that can determine the type of flooring you choose for your commercial setting.

The amount of traffic that a commercial setting sees will usually be more than that of a home. This means any type of flooring you settle on will have to be one that is very durable. Vinyl tile is a good example of a popular type of commercial flooring. Vinyl flooring first saw wide spread use in the 1980s when it took the place of Asbestos tiles. Vinyl tile was a great choice to succeed Abestos Tile for a few reasons. First of all, it wasn’t made up of hazardous materials. Also, Vinyl tile is very durable and in the event that a tile is damaged it is easily replaced. Vinyl tiles are utilized everywhere from schools to hospitals.

A great example of commercial Vinyl flooring is Konecto by MetroFlor. The Konecto flooring line has several features which would be important in a commercial setting. It is waterproof, glueless and is installed by an innovative locking system. You can learn more about Konecto Vinyl Flooring and purchase it at FloorMall.
